Multilingualism and Ethnic Prejudice

Abstract. This study explored the relationship between the ability to talk to others in more than one language and ethnic prejudice, considering the quality and quantity of intergroup contact. A structural equation model analysis was carried out on a sample of 631 Italian citizens. The results showed that multilingualism led to an increase of acceptance of intergroup differences and positive attitudes toward Moroccans and that the quality (but not quantity) of intergroup contact-mediated those relationships. Identity, Couple and Intergroup Dynamics in Intercultural Families: Implications on Life Satisfaction of Partners

The current study analyzed how identity, couple, and intergroup dynamics are related to life satisfaction among 210 intercultural partners living in Italy. Three levels of analysis were considered: a micro level, taking into account the identity aspect of each partner in terms of self- or hetero-ethnic identification; a meso level, examining the passion, commitment, and intimacy of the couple sphere of the partners; a macro level investigating the discrimination that partners can perceive by the community as an effect of the relationship between dominant and minority groups. TeamSim: An Educational Micro-World for the Teaching of Team Dynamics

In this paper we present an educational micro-world in which a learner can manipulate variables affecting the efficiency with which a team adapts to its environment. These include the structure of hierarchical relations within the team, the structure of the communications network, and other environmental parameters. Using the micro-world, the learner can design experiments (simulations) exploring notions in the dynamics of small groups. This study aimed to translate the modified Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ) and the Youth Sport Environment Questionnaire (YSEQ) into Norwegian, examine the factor structure and reliability of the scales through independent clusters model confirmatory factor analysis (ICM-CFA) and exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM), and examine differential item functioning (DIF) as a function of sex. Tässä pilottitutkimuksessa selvitettiin sana-assosiaatioiden koheesiota ryhmissä. Tarkoituksena oli selvittää, löytyykö yhtenäisyyttä ryhmän keskinäisen toimeen tulemisen välillä ja sen suhteen, kuinka ryhmät assosioivat sanoja. Assosiaatioiden koheesion mittaamisessa käytettiin pohjatietona muistiteorioita ja verkkoteoriaa. Koehenkilöt olivat Jyväskylän yliopistossa järjestetyn kurssin oppilaita, jotka jakaantuivat ryhmiin. Kurssin aluksi ensimmäiset assosiaatiotehtävät teetettiin oppilailla.
